Denzel Washington’s relationship with God is far from shallow. It runs deep. In fact, he has said he was given the ability to act thanks to God. In an interview with BBC’s Radio 1Xtra, the Academy Award winning actor shared a moment where he saw God’s face.
Washington was on a yacht at the time listening to music and praying. His apropos song of choice was “The Face of God.” He then began to pray.
“Lord, you know everybody’s singing about the face of God, they can see your face and I want to see your face,” Washington said while praying.
The actor said he then heard “turn to the left” and when he turned around, he looked around and picked up his phone to take a picture of the sky. But, he ends up capturing something miraculous on camera. He showed radio host Nadia Jae the photo he took.
The clouds appeared to form the image of a nose, lips and eyes. It’s as if God answered his request.
Washington said he believes his moment is part of God’s faithfulness.
This isn’t the first time the actor has spoken on his faith and relationship with God. In 2015, he encouraged students to put God first during his commencement speech at Dillard University.
“Everything that you think you see in me,” he said. “Everything that I’ve accomplished, everything that you think I have – and I have a few things. Everything that I have is by the grace of God. Understand that. It’s a gift.”
