Erica Campbell’s Daughter Zaya Takes Home Top Prize at Pageant

Congratulations are in order for Erica Campbell’s daughter, Zaya. The 12-year-old recently won the grand prize at the Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant.
Campbell couldn’t contain her excitement posting a video compilation on Instagram after her daughter was crowned and received her pageant sash.
“She did it,” she said in her post. ““SHE WON More videos to come but I am so proud of my baby girl!! She worked so hard.”

This is an especially special moment for Zaya who was the first runner-up at the pageant last year. In her Instagram post at the time, Erica said while her daughter was happy to be in the pageant, she didn’t want to do it at first. But she was confident Zaya had the talent and heart to handle it.
“It was a crazy experience, but she learned a lot about herself,” she said in her 2023 post. “She handled it with so much grace I couldn’t be more proud!! My baby girl looked amazing.”
The Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant has been around for more than 30 years. It empowers young girls aged 6 through 12 to be confident, have awareness and pride. It’s all in an effort to ensure these young ladies become future leaders. The pageant has awarded thousands in scholarships since 1994.
This year’s contest was held at Barnsdall Art Park in Los Angeles, CA. Contestants were judged by a celebrity panel that included Michael Beach, Ella Joyce, Parker McKenna Posey, Mattel’s Black Barbie Doll designer Stacey McBride-Irby and others.
Star power not only runs in Zaya’s blood but has been personified. In December 2023, Zaya landed a Nationwide Insurance company commercial based off a viral video she did with her mom when she was 5 years old. It encouraged others to get in on the fun of creating their own version of the popular Nationwide jingle. There was a chance to win $5,000.
Now a pageant princess, who knows what might be next for Zaya.
