Tropical Storm Debby is expected to hit Central North Carolina this week, in the form of some very heavy rain.
As reported by ABC11, the National Hurricane Center downgraded Debby back to a Tropical Storm on Monday (Aug. 5) after making landfall over the weekend in Florida as a Category 1 hurricane.
Central NC will have rounds of rain and increasingly gusty winds from Tuesday through Friday. There is also a high risk of flooding in areas that have had rain in the past few weeks. Beach erosion at the coast is also expected.
State agencies are already in preparation mode, with the City of Raleigh announcing that it’s starting to lower Lake Johnson in anticipation of the heavy rainfall.
The Path
Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina are also preparing for heavy rain and possible flooding as the storm moves through the Gulf. Debby could bring an endless amount of rain along the Georgia-Carolina coast. Rain totals could reach over 2 feet, with the heaviest rain amounts possibly topping 30 inches or more.
Some forecast models show that the storm could linger through at least Thursday.
