This month, we are proud to honor Bishop Wayne E. McKoy Sr., pastor of Star of Hope Original Free Will Baptist Church in Sanford, NC! Bishop McKoy was nominated by Ira V. of Cameron. Here’s more about our honoree:

I’m nominating Bishop Wayne E Mckoy Sr for the July Pastor of the Month. Bishop Mckoy is currently the Pastor of Star of Hope Original Free Will Baptist Church in Sanford NC. Bishop Mckoy serves as the Vice President of the Cape Fear Southwestern Original Free Will Baptist Conference, and he’s also serving on the Board of Directors for the Let’s Do it Together Foundation, an organization, whose goal is to raise awareness about inequities, as well as diversity, and inclusion.

Bishop is a true testament of servant leadership He has been an intricate part of celebrating those not only in his congregation, but also in the community. Bishop Mckoy has established programs that celebrate teachers at Greenwood Elementary School in Sanford NC. Also, he has been a pillar of support for those in need on many occasions in the community. He is the husband of 1st Lady Arlesia Mckoy, and a father of four, and grandfather of six. Even with being such a dedicated family man, Bishop Mckoy still makes sure to be present for his flock.

There are so many words of praise that could be used to describe him. The one that sticks out to me would have to be “Faithful”. His faith is what carries him from day to day. Being tired at times, he still manages to completely give all of himself to everyone he encounters. He is a US Army Reserve retired Sgt First Class, serving his country for 20 years and has now transitioned to serving his congregation. While working to keep lights on for so many people as a supervisor for Duke Energy, he now lets his light shine amongst the people. For these reasons, and so many more, Bishop Mckoy should be recognized as the July Pastor of the Month.
